Responsibilities:
Seeking a technician to work in the Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC) section.
The GNC section supports Sounding Rocket operations for NASA under the NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract III (NSROC III).
This position will require an individual to be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
Applicant will work on a variety of projects, typically multiple at any one time.
Applicant will be the Attitude Control System (ACS) technician and, possibly, Boost Guidance System (BGS) operator for sounding rocket missions.
The candidate will support system integration, testing, and operation throughout the entire mission life cycle including launch at remote sites.
Travel is required.
Typical travel to the remote launch site lasts 3 to 6 weeks.
Multiple trips per year are expected.
In addition to supporting mission operations, this person will fabricate and refurbish flight pneumatics systems, electrical harnesses, light soldering, fabrication of GNC Ground Support Equipment (electrical and pneumatic), assist with parts procurement, support manufacturing planning and processing, assist with non-conformance resolution, and shop organization.
The successful applicant will be able to work both explicit procedure and engineering drawing/schematic directions and informal, ad hoc direction.
The applicant is required to develop a technical understanding of the functioning of the various assigned systems and be able to make sound, responsible decisions regarding their handling and operation.
Success will require that the individual be proficient and productive with both electrical and pneumatic systems and problems.
Job Description:
Support integration, test, and operations for ACS and BGS, travel required Travel:
roughly 25% of total time; frequency will vary.
Trips are multi-week.
Travel includes within CONUS and to foreign locations Interact safely with high pressure pneumatic systems; training is provided Fabricate, repair, and refurbish pneumatics system for sounding rocket applications Perform acceptance test procedures on electrical components, electrical systems, pneumatic components, and pneumatic systems Fabricate electrical and pneumatic GSE Ability to perform light mechanical / metal work - drill & tap holes, light machining, and light sheet metal work Interact with business inventory system (CostPoint) to find parts, check inventory, and support fabrication and refurbishment Develop or assist in development of test and work procedures Able to use various test equipment including but not limited to:
gauges, flow meters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, micrometers, calipers, and computers Perform production planning work with CostPoint Need to work at heights up to about 16 ft high (man lifts and tall step ladders) Gain the following NASA certifications or licenses:
Pressure Operator license Pressure Operator physical Mate / Demate Crimp, Cable, and Harness Certification Electro-Static Discharge Operator license Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies Interact and use MS Office Suite Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma plus a Relevant Associates Degree or Trade School Certification Demonstrable experience with pneumatics or hydraulic systems and electrical systems Computer experience At least 2 years relevant professional experience
Qualifications:
